Chapter 106

Sarah said...

"Sorry for getting your girl in trouble." Rob said after at least ten minutes of silence.
"It's okay. She didn't continue to follow down your path." Chris said.
I almost opened my mouth and stood up for Rob, but I bit my tongue.
"I got a job at another record store." He told us. "I was kind of embarassed to go back to Tracks. I knew everyone knew our story."
"Nobody cares about it." I said.
"Really?" He asked.
"Really." I said annoyed.
"Maybe I'll go back. This new place sucks." He said.
"I'm sure you could come back." I said.
"I'll call Kev tomorrow." He said. "Just let him know Rehab wasn't working out and that I'm fine."
"Yeah. I'm sure that'll work very well for you." Chris said sarcastically.
"Babe." I said softly.
"What? If he tells them that, they'll make him take a drug test first." Chris told me loudly.
"Well, then I'll tell him I changed my mind about rehab." He said.
"What did you tell him you were going to rehab for?" I asked.
"Alcohol abuse. I told him I got in trouble for it." He said.
"Oh." I said. "Tell him they changed your sentance."
"I could do that." He said. "You're smart, Blair."
I noticed Chris giving Rob a dirty look in the rear view mirror. Rob didn't say another word until we got to his brothers house. He said goodbye and got out of the car. Chris spead away squeeling the tires. "Why? Would you help him? Why would you give him ideas?" He said sounding angry.
"Babe, don't worry about it okay?" I said.
"Is it so the drugs are easy access?" He asked.
"If I wanted drugs, I wouldn't need him to get it." I said.
"Okay."
"Chris, I'm done with it." I said. "I promise."
He nodded and put his hand on my leg. "I'm sorry." He said.
"It's okay. I don't want you to worry about me though." I said.
When we got home, we both went to sleep right away.
The next morning, when I went into work, Brody was unloading some new shipments. I sat down on the floor to help him. He was being very quiet.
"Good Morning, hun." I said smiling.
He just smiled.
"What's wrong?" I asked lightly pushing him back.
"Nothing. I guess I'm just excited about tonight." He said smiling as he looked up at me.
"Oh. The movie." I said. I didn't really feel like going. I just wanted to be with Chris.
"Are we still on?" He asked.
"Of course. I wouldn't miss it for the world." I said giggling.
He smiled. We heard the door open and we both looked up. Rob was walking into the back.
"Hey, kids." He said. His punch card was still in his slot. He picked it up and clocked in. Brody stood up. "What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Working." Rob said. "Why? What's with you?"
Brody looked at me and I shook my head. "Nothing, man. Glad you're back." Brody said shaking his hand.
"Me too. Me too." Rob said. "Well, see you guys around. Kevin's throwing me up front to take surveys." He walked away.
"Thank you for being cool." I said.
"I know that it was your choice to do it. It just kind of pisses me off that he provided you with it."
"I know. I'm sorry. I kind of begged him too. I feel bad about it." I said.
"Yeah." He said.
"Sorry."
He sighed. "I'm over it."
"I'm actually surprised Kevin let him come back." I said.
"He had already told him he was welcome to come back any time." He said.
"True." I said.
We continued to unload the boxes and mark them all down on the chart. When we finished, Lindsey grabbed them so she could restock the shelves.
"Lunch break?" Brody asked.
"Sure." I said. He helped me stand up from the floor and we walked to Carl's. It was a big sports bar.
