"Did you put the money back?" I whispered to Brody. We were in the back eating lunch. "Yeah. This morning." He said. "Good. Next time ask me if you need to borrow some cash." I told him. "Thanks." He said. I just smiled. "Hey." Kevin said, seepping out of his office. "Hey." Brody and I both said at once. "Blair, can I see you when you are done eating?" He asked me. "Yeah, sure." I said, and smiled. "Thanks." He said, and went back into the office. "Whats that about?" Brody asked me. "I don't know." I said, and took another bite of my burger. When I was done I went to see Kevin. I knocked on his door and he opened it. "Hey." He said. "Come on in." I walked in and sat down at a chair by his desk. "So, I bet you are wondering what this is all about?" He asked. "Maybe a little." I said. "Well, I'll just get to the point. I'm looking for a new assistant manager, and I wanted to offer the job to you." He said. "What? Me?" I asked. "Yes. I think you are the best I've got." He said, and smiled. "But Jake is the assistant manager." I told him. "Well, not anymore." He said. "What?" I asked. "I review the paperwork in the morning, to double check Jake's work. And I noticed we are short 400 dollars." He said. "You don't think Jake took it, do you?" I asked. "Maybe. He didn't tell me about it. In fact he tried to hide it." He told me. "But Jake is a good guy. He know's everyone here. Maybe he was just trying to hide until he could figure out what happened and get the money back." I said. "Maybe, but it was still dishonest of him." He said. "Kevin, have you checked the register today? Maybe the money is back in there." I said. "No. Do you know anything about this?" He asked me. "Jake told me about it. I spread word around saying that if whoever took it put the money back, there would be no questions asked." I lied. "You know who took it, don't you?" He asked me. "No." I lied again. "Was it Jake?" He asked. "NO!" I said. "Brody?" I know you two are close." He said. "No." I lied again. "Hold on." He said, and got up and left. I sat in his office, trying not to get too nervous. He came back and sat down. "You were right. We are over 400 dollars on the register count." He said. "Now, only you, brody, and Ariel were here before noon today." He said. "It was me." I blurted out. "What?" He asked. "I needed money to help out a friend, so I took it. But I realized it was bad idea, and a rotten thing to do, so I put the money back this morning." I lied. I knew if I told him Brody did it, that would be it. He would be out of a job. But Kevin always seemed to like me, so I decided to take my chances. "I don't believe this. I really liked you Blair. You are such a hard worker." He said. "I know. It was a dumb, horrible mistake, and I'm sorry." I said. "Well, given your past good history here, I'll let it go. But if anything like this ever happens again, you are history." He said. "Thank you." I told him. "Now, get back to work." He said, sounding disapointed. I just turned and left. "What happened?" Brody asked. "It's nothing." I said, and walked out frot. "It's not nothing! What happened?" Brody asked, following me. "I said nothing! Now I have to finish re-organizng the used CD's." I said, and walked over to that isle. Brody left me alone. When the day was finaly over I didn't say anything on our way home. "What's wrong? Did Kevin know? You didn't tell him did you?" Brody blurted out when I pulled into my parking space. "NO! I told him I did it." I confessed. "What? Why would you do that?" He asked. "Because! If I said you did it, you would have been fired right there!" I said. I got out, and walked right inside. Brody was behind me, but he didn't say anything. "Hey." Chris said when I walked in. I didn't say antying. "You okay?" He asked me. "Long day." I said, and walked straight back to my room. I layed down in bed and picked up my book. I wanted to try to get my mind off of what happened. There was a knock on my door. "Come in." I said. Brody walked in and shut the door. "I'm sorry." He said, and sat down on my bed. "It's okay." I told him, and sat up. "It's not okay. I'm sorry. I fucked up." He said. "Why did you take the fall?" "I told you. I didn't want you to get fired. I like working with you." I told him. "Enough to take the blame for something I did?" He asked, and I nodded. "Wow. No one has ever done anything like that for me." He said. I just shrugged. "It's what freinds do." I told him. He leaned over and hugged me. He looked up at me and smilled. "Thanks." He said. His hair fell into his eyes and I pushed it away. "Welcome." I said, and smiled back. I still had my hand on his cheek and leaned in and kissed him. I was a little surprised when he kissed me back. I was even more surpised when he gently pushed me backwards so I was laying down, and then layed on top of me. He placed his and on my stomach, and started to lift up my shirt. I gasped, and stopped him by puttin my hand over his. "Not while Chris is here." I whispered. "Sorry." He said, and climbed off of me. I sat up, and pulled my shirt down. It looked like he was about to say something, but he just smiled instead, and left. "Oh shit." I muttered to myself when he left. I layed down and pulled the blankets up over my head.
