Chapter Seventeen

I took a deep breath before I called Rain.
"Hey Sis." She said when she picked up.
"Hey." I answered.
"What's up?" She asked. It sounded like she was smoking. I hated it when she smoked. I figured that wasn't the best time to nag her about it though.
"A friend of mine located mom." I blurted out.
"What?" She asked.
"Chris. He found mom. I told Sage, and he said I should let you know." I told her.
"Why would I care?" She asked.
"Because. He said if we go see her, we should all go." I told her.
"She doesn't want to see us! If she did she would have fucking called! Or written me back!" Rain said.
"What? Written you back?" I asked her.
"You aren't the first one to find her. I've found her several times, and written her letters. But she has never once written me back." Rain said.
"I think we should go see her. Aren't you curious about anything?" I asked her.
"Yeah, tons of shit. But she wants nothing to do with me! I mean us." she said.
"You don't know that! I really want to see her. If we go out there, she'll have to talk to you." I said. Rain didn't answer right away. "Look, please come out. For me and Sage."
"Fine. I'll come." She said.
"Thanks. We're going to go tomorrow. I figured we could just stop by, it's a Sunday. Hopefully she'll be there." I said.
"Yeah." She replied.
"Rain?"
"What?"
"Thanks." I told her.
"Uh-huh. I'll meet you at your apartment tomorrow morning." She said.
"Okay. Sage is meeting me here too." I said.
"Okay. Bye." She said and hung up. It went better then I thought it would. I wasn't expecting her to go.
"So, how did it go?" Chris asked.
"Good. Surprizingly." I told him. He smiled at me, and walked over and hugged me. He sat down on the couch, and I held his hand.
"I'm scared." I told him.
"Don't be. It'll work out." He said.
"How do you know?" I snapped at him.
"Look at me." He said. I looked up and stared into his green eyes. They were so deep. I realized I knew so much about him, but there was still so much I didn't know. His eyes looked caring, and tough at the same time.
"I know because I've seen a lot in my life. It will work out, because whatever happens tomorrow, good or bad, you are the kind of person that is strong enough to deal with it. I love you for that." He said, and smiled. I couldn't stop looking at his eyes. They were gorgeous. I had always loved his eyes, but I had never really seen them that way before. Like I was seeing a different side of him.
"Thank you Chris." I said. His eyes teared up, and a tear fell down his cheek. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm okay when I'm around you." He said.
"What is wrong?" I asked him, feeling a little concerned.
"I've just been thinking a lot about stuff lately." He said.
"The same stuff you always think about?" I asked him.
"Yeah. It just gets to me sometimes." He said. I smiled, and kissed his cheek where is tear had travled. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
"I wish you could come with me tomorrow." I told him.
"I wish I could too. But this is something you need to do with your family." He told me.
"I know." I said. "But I'm so scared."
"Come here." He said, and I scooted closer to him. He put his arms around me, and leaned back into the couch. "It'll work out. I swear to you." He said.
I just sat there and felt his warmth, and his strong arms around me. I wrested my head on his neck, and closed my eyes. I started thinking about how we first met, and all the things he went through.
