I sighed as I layed back in the chair after our two hour lunch staff meeting. "It's a peice of cake." Jake told me. Kevin chose me to learn how to take care of all the finances. He was going to start me off with inventory. I followed Jake to the back room. We sat down. "Okay, it's really easy to fill out this stuff." He said. "We'll go off what you recorded. Sometimes it's hard to read peoples handwriting. Especially Rob's. It looks like he was having a seizure as he was writing." I laughed. He pulled out a pad of order forms. "We'll start out with our local section. We order a lot of shit from Bound Records here in town." He explained. "So on the first line, write out Bound Records." I wrote it out as he explained the procedure. "And the last thing is the date and your signature." He said. "Today is. . ." He looked at his watch. "September second." My heart dropped when I heard that date. I dropped the pen. "Are you okay?" He asked. "It's my Mom's birthday. I can't beleive I forgot." I said starting to tear up. He put his arm around me and pulled me close to him. "I'm sorry." He said. When I was fourteen, my Mother left to go grocery shopping on morning. She never came back. She called my Father once saying she was sorry. That was the last time she ever tried contacting any of us. I loved my Mom so much and I really looked up to her. She was such a fun person. On her birthday every year, I would get chinese takeout and watch Casablanca in my room with Chris just like My Mom and I would do all the time. I started crying. Jake put his arms around me. "I'm a jerk for forgeting." I said. "It's okay." He said. "No, it's not okay!" I shouted. "Let me take you home." He said. "No. I'm sorry." I said. "Do you want to walk outside and take a break with me?" He asked. I nodded. He took my hand and we walked out to the back of the store where we'd take deliveries. We sat down on the ground as he lit up a cigarette. "God, I miss her so much." I said. "I know." He said. "How could someone leave behind three kids and a husband just like that?" I asked as I pictured her playing Yatzee with me, my sister and my brother. "People change." He said. "I wonder if she even misses us or ever thinks about us." I said. "I bet she does." He said. "I don't know. . ." I said. We talked for about a half hour, then went back inside. He showed me everything I needed to know and I headed home a little early. I started crying again as I walked up to my apartment. As I went to unlock the door, it flew open and Chris was standing there. He pushed me outside. "You're early." He said. I nodded as I wiped my eyes. "One second." He said as he closed the door in my face. I started to feel very frustrated. All I wanted to do was go to bed. "Okay!" I heard him shout. I walked in and threw my purse onto the couch. I layed back on it. "Come here!" He said. "Why are you in my bedroom?" I asked. "Panty raide, duh!" He said. "Chris!" I shouted as I ran into my room. I was speechless when I saw him sitting on my bed with Chinese take out in front of him. "Sit down." He said. I started crying as I walked up to the bed. I sat down next to him. He picked up the remote and pushed play. "Oh my god." I said smiling as the movie started. It was Casablanca. He laughed. "Didn't think you'd be THAT surprised. Considering we do this every year." He said. "I didn't even realize it was her birthday today until Jake said the date." I sobbed. "Oh." I leaned over and gave him a kiss. He turned off the lamp next to him and I leaned back on his shoulder as we watched the movie. After a few minutes, I sat up and we both started to eat. I couldn't beleive he remembered and I didn't. I was ussually the one to ask him to have the chinese at home for us when I got home from work. "Oh and I didn't rent it this time. I bought it for you." He said. "I had to order it from some store that puts movies on dvd illegaly." "Oh my gosh." I said. "I couldn't find it at any stores." He said. "Really?" I asked. I didn't know what to say. Once again, I was speechless. "Yes. Blair Butterfly." He said. I laughed. "You're Mom sounds really awesome." He said. "I know I always tell you that. She must have had some great stories too." "She smoked a lot of pot in high school." I giggled. "I figured considering your name." He said. "My sisters is worse." I said. "Rainbow Flower. Yeah, that's pretty bad." He laughed. "What's your brothers again?" "Sage Glory." I said. "Yeah, that's gotta be the worst." He said. We both laughed. "Wow." He said. "She was awesome though." I said. "You still know that my father is a lawyer and I can still have him look her up." He said. "Maybe some day." I said. We finished eating what we could and Chris put the leftovers in the fridge. I layed back and he put his arms around me. We fell asleep watching the movie. I hadn't slept that good in a long time and I felt great the next morning.
