"Brody! I can help you unload." I said. I had been trying to help him for at least an hour after we had our meeting. Ariel had been back with the Champagne, but we had to wait for our early evening rush to be over before we could all meet for a toast to Jake.
"I got it." He said.
"FUCK YOU!" I shouted, and that got his attention. I was smiling though when he looked at me.
"Why wont you let me help?" I asked.
"Because. You're a girl." He said.
"It's not becuase you are mad at me?" I asked him.
"No. I just feel weird letting a girl lift and move all these boxes." He said.
"I'm a tough girl." I told him, and took a box from him. He smiled.
"I'm sorry about everything Brody. I got too freaked out by everything, and didn't know how to deal with it all." I said.
"It happens to the best of us Blair." He said. "What hurt me is that you lied to me. And I thought we were, maybe, kind of getting closer." He said.
"I thought that too." I said.
"What happened?" He asked.
"I don't know. I really don't. I didn't know how to handle anything, so I guess I tried to just push it all aside and hide from it." I said. I sat down on a stack of boxes, and Brody walked up to me. He hugged me, and I wasn't expecting it.
"I hope life works out for you." He said. I felt like crying for a second, but I didn't.
"Come on! Champagne time!" Ariel shouted, making us both jump.
Brody sighed, and I laughed. We both walked into the back area where everyone was gathered.
Ariel handed us each a plastic cup with champagne in it. I looked over at Jake and he looked so embarassed.
"To Jake! And his new life!" Ariel said, and we all took a drink. We all hung around for a few minutes talking to Jake, and making toasts. It was fun, even though Ariel and Lindsey were being annoying.
"Okay, celebration over. Back to work." Kevin said, and we all scattered.
"That was interesting." I said to Brody as we walked back out, each carrying a box.
"Yeah. Tell me about it. Poor Jake!" He said.
"Why poor Jake?" I asked him.
"He looked so embarassed." Brody said.
"Yeah, he did." I said, and grunted when I set the box down. It was a heavy one.
"Brody?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry. Do you think you can ever forgive me?" I asked him.
"Blair, I care a lot about you. I've already forgiven you." He said, and I smiled.
"Thank you." I said, and hugged him.
"You're welcome." He said. "Now let's try to unpack these boxes before quiting time."
